ROTARY CLUB OF KHAMMAM was chartered on 24th May, 1976, with the initiative of one N. Madhura Babu, the them Chairman of "Nagarjuna Grameena Bank", and since then the Club has been rendering its services to the humanity, especially poor and needy.

In 1976 - 77 itself, when there was no such program declared by either Rotary International or as a matte of fact, the Government of India, the Rotary Club of Khammam had initiated "SHELTER FOR SHELTER LESS', under which the Club coordinated with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Commercial Banks, and responsible for allotment of 45 house sites to poor and below poverty line people, got houses thereon constructed, and allocated to them, at the just outskirts of Khammam town on the main road leading from Khammam to Wyra.  The Colony was named after Rotary and it is now called as "ROTARY NAGAR'.   Through this gesture Rotary Club of Khammam has became the model agency between the State Government and Banking industry.  With this act about 45 families have became house owners and their status from below poverty changed to middle class.  Later in the course of time the said colony has become a rich and costly place, benifitting the allottees. This said project not only helped the poor, but the image of Rotary was increased boundless in the district.
